General Session 3: Proper Alignment of Senior Management Measures and Incentives (General Luncheon)

Effective performance measures are essential to understanding and managing the interplay of earnings, income recognition, performance incentives, agency costs and balancing competing interests among shareholders, customers, executive management and all employees. Bennett Stewart will discuss how to optimally manage businesses- highlight sources of risk and offsetting policies, contrasting the EVA model of capital allocation, economic capital vs. regulatory capital to determine which businesses to grow or divest in multi-line institutions.

General Session 4: Challenging Erm Issues

This not-to-be missed session will feature risk management professionals who have been at the cornerstone of implementing ERM systems/processes in their respective organizations and beyond. Panelists will address the issues that keep senior risk managers up at night, including global economic risk, financial market risks, and the organizational, communication and cultural challenges associated with implementing and maintaining ERM.

They will also share their expert insights on their roles, skills, independence, education/training, staffing and the demands being made of them by their Board, CEO and other parties such as regulators, rating agencies, analysts, etc. How is performance measured? Examples of successes, progress and frustrations will be discussed.

The closing remarks session has traditionally been one of the most remarkable sessions at the symposium, and those who attended this session last year were duly rewarded. Several risk management experts from the symposium’s extended faculty will present their impressions of the symposium, summarize achievements, and challenge the participants with thought-provoking issues to address at the next ERM Symposium. Audience participation and questions will be welcomed and encouraged.
